Control humidity and improve indoor air quality

Author:

Humidity refers to the dryness and wetness of water vapor in the air. Relative humidity is the percentage of water vapor pressure in the air to the saturated water vapor pressure at the same temperature. When the relative humidity in a place is too high or too low, it can lead to environmental health problems and even affect people's physical and mental health.

Why is indoor air quality important?

Most people either live or work, probably spend 90% of their time indoors. Without openable windows or ventilation, they have been breathing other people's or their own air.

Low air quality has a considerable knock-on effect on both human health and work efficiency. For example, pollutants in indoor environments, such as high levels of carbon dioxide, can lead to chronic diseases, and low humidity can cause dry eyes and sore throats. In general, low air quality can lead to headaches, physical fatigue, breathing problems, and poor concentration. From a job perspective, absenteeism in the workforce will be higher, and productivity levels will drop when they work in this environment. Time and time again, this research has shown the link between air quality, work performance and healthy living.

indoor humidity

To work efficiently and live a healthy life, everyone needs to have a healthy and comfortable environment. In daily life or work, low air quality is largely related to the humidity of the air around them.

According to the research of physiologists, the comfort of the human body is the result of the combined effect of temperature and humidity. While paying attention to the temperature, you should also pay attention to adjusting the indoor humidity. In summer, when the indoor humidity is too high, it will inhibit the body's heat dissipation, making people feel stuffy and irritable; in winter, when the indoor humidity is too high, it will accelerate heat conduction, making people feel cold and depressed. When the indoor humidity is too low, a large amount of water in the upper respiratory tract will be lost, and people will feel dry mouth and be prone to colds. Experts believe that the upper limit of relative humidity should not exceed 80%RH, and the lower limit should not be lower than 30%RH. Experiments have determined that the most pleasant indoor temperature and humidity are: winter temperature is 18°C to 25°C, humidity is 30%RH to 80%RH; summer temperature is 23°C to 28°C, humidity is 30%RH to 60%RH. Most people in this range are comfortable.

Ways to improve air quality

Low air quality is a relatively serious problem in China, and it is very important to improve air quality. How to ensure high-quality indoor air, one of the breakthrough points is to control the air humidity and purify the air. Ways to improve indoor air quality:

(1) Open the windows to allow air to circulate. This will also reduce humidity and odors in the room, especially the kitchen.

(2) Regularly replace the air filter to ensure the effective purification of air circulation.

(3) Add indoor plants. Plants are biological air purifiers that have been shown to improve indoor air quality

(4) Install fresh air dehumidification system. Humidity control is the biggest factor affecting indoor air quality. Installing a fresh air dehumidification system can effectively ensure that the indoor air environment is maintained at a comfortable level.
